President's Message
The Art Institute of Dallas President Simon Lumley

Welcome to The Art Institute of Dallas. We are pleased to have you join us through our website.

Here at The Art Institute of Dallas we are committed to helping you to succeed in the program of your choice. We assume that a student attends our college to succeed and that you will do your part as the chief architect of your success.

The prime college liaisons are our well-qualified faculty and the most important “vehicles” are the educational activities that make up each program. To take full advantage of these activities you must attend your classes, become familiar with each learning activity and its place in your program of studies, study diligently and seek the help you need from your teachers both during class time and during office hours. Some teachers offer additional modes of contact such as telephone, e-mail or Internet. But, if you have questions or problems, don’t hesitate to ask a staff member or faculty member who can advise you or point you in the right direction.

A second group of key college liaisons are the Academic Advisors. They will:

  • Ensure that you have made the right choices, i.e., that your choices are consistent with the career or college program that you wish to follow.
  • Ensure that you have the courses that you need.
  • Guide you through your program and
  • Advise you on maximizing your chances of academic success.

Each student receives an individualized educational plan. It is specific to the program of study you are following and becomes more and more individualized as you advance through your program. It is an instrument that will enable both you and the College to monitor your progress and to plan for your success. You will receive an updated version each quarter.

The Art Institute of Dallas offers many services to support your efforts to achieve your academic goals. The library staff is ready to show you how to get the most from both their traditional and their electronic holdings. Mentoring and guidance in career planning are also available.

Preparing to take your place within a diverse community in what is often described as the “real world” demands more than “academic” preparation. While your primary focus must be successful completion of your program, you can enrich your learning experience at The Art Institute of Dallas by participation in extracurricular activities of your choice.
